Dr. Rabindranath Tagore - Autodidact and Nobel Laureate - Video Playlist (1861 - 1941) - Received Nobel Prize in Literature in the year 1913, primarily for his book of poems titled, Gitanjali becoming the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize - Gitanjali was originally published in Bengali on August 14, 1910, and later published in English incorporating Tagore's own translations in the year 1912 - Gitanjali is part of the UNESCO's collection of representative works As per the Swedish Academy NobelPrize.org website, Dr. Tagore was awarded the Nobel Prize for the following reason - "because of his profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful verse, by which, with consummate skill, he has made his poetic thought, expressed in his own English words, a part of the literature of the West".
